Role Summary
The UK Technical Director will act as an Applications Specialist, offering high-level technical support across Critical Power, Power Control & Safety, Energy Efficiency, and Energy Storage business lines. From initial specifications to post-sales support, the role ensures the delivery of market-leading solutions by coordinating technical expertise across UK operations and liaising with Group technical and quality teams.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Support & Leadership
– Provide expert technical advice to commercial and project teams, especially for complex or large-scale projects.
– Deliver training to internal teams to maintain high levels of application knowledge and technical proficiency.
– Offer strategic guidance and technical leadership to engineers and staff.
– Allocate technical workload and training resources; participate in management meetings and Health & Safety committees.
Project & Product Development
– Develop systems to document and quantify the technical and commercial viability of innovative product concepts.
– Coordinate third-party product accreditations in compliance with UK standards.
– Represent the business in local standardisation bodies and lobby for technical advancement aligned with HQ goals.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
– Influence key specifiers (consultants, D&B contractors, end-users) to adopt multi-BA (business area) solutions.
– Collaborate with marketing to produce technical content, including CPD modules and online promotions.
– Ensure effective cross-functional communication to convert opportunities into confirmed orders.
– Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders including trade associations and regulatory bodies.
Strategic Initiatives
– Contribute to the development of technical strategies supporting long-term business goals.
– Lead or support multi-country technical initiatives to propose holistic solutions for large end-user projects.
– Promote standardisation and best practices through participation in industry bodies and committees.
Required Skills & Competencies
– Technical Expertise: Strong electrical engineering background with the ability to interpret wiring diagrams and technical specifications.
– Commercial Awareness: Able to identify and convert early-stage project opportunities; strong knowledge of product positioning and commercial viability.
– Project Management: Skilled in managing complex technical environments, stakeholder communication, and timelines.
– Influencing & Communication: Proven ability to communicate and persuade internal and external stakeholders.
– Initiative: Self-starter who takes proactive steps to solve issues and create opportunities.
– Collaboration: Strong team player who builds effective working relationships internally and externally.
Experience & Education
– BSc, MSc, BEng, or HNC in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
– Minimum 10 years’ experience in a senior technical position within the power sector.
– Proven track record of developing technical solutions with M&E consultants, D&B contractors, and large-scale end-users.
– Experience in creating and presenting business cases for new product development.
